Sofukurin Kabuto


SAMURAI HELMET “Sofukurin Kabuto”

Superb samurai helmet with 32 iron plates. Each suji is covered with gilt bronze fukurin. The base is decorated with higaki with a central inome (a heart-shaped decorative opening, a stylized representation of a boar's eye), also in gilt bronze.
Dain leather covers the mabisashi and fukikaeshi, bordered by a gilt bronze fukurin decorated with kojiri (fish egg motifs).
The shikoro is made of five iron plates, of the Etchu type, in kritsuke kozane with blue odoshi lacing.
The back is fitted with an Agemakitsuke ring for trimmings.
Coat of arms: Maruni sumitate yotsume.

Japan, Izumo Province.
On top, a six-tiered copper tehen.
Period: Momoyama, 17th century.
